As those of you that attended the AGM are aware, TSC has been struggling financially for the last few years. Last year a Financial Committee was established to look into this.

It was felt that one of the options to generate income (without cranking up Membership fees) would be Rentable Accommodation. A sub-committee was formed to look into this and we looked (and are still looking) at various options. There are Wood Cabins, Nutec Cabins, Converted Container cabins, Fiberglass Cabins and many more.

Unfortunately we do not currently have the money to invest in any of these ideas. One of the companies we visited was Helderberg Marine (HM) – a Boatbuilding company that has entered the cabin market.

The Project:

A week ago we were visited by the owner of the company (whom is mostly overseas). He was so taken by TSC and the view of the full dam, he offered to lend us “The Pod” as a demo unit. The advantage is that we did not have to lay out a cent – it was kitted out, brought here and installed at their cost. The income on the Pod (minus our expenses) will be divided between us and HM on a 50/50 split.

Please note: It is here on a DEMO basis and can/will be removed when sold.

The advantages:

We will get the usage of the Pod to rent out, and generate much needed income, as well as have more accommodation available for the public, and members, of course. They will, in turn, get exposure and advertising benefits. We will be able to do a feasibility study on the rental accommodation to see if it is a viable option for the future and if we should consider more cabins going forward. We can determine size of units, likes and dislikes of users during this period to establish the best service and price point to put forward, and so on.

This is a great initiative and trust that it will bring much needed exposure and more interest in the club and the activities we offer.
